Honorable Mention Two Poems Carin Cradle and All Willow bent to the break; your silent boughs laid down - night wind, last breath, my friend too soon cut down. Eulogy I should be planning my daughter's wedding. Instead I am reading her eulogy. Her strong, beautiful willow, now the funeral cypress: still tall as the sky, but now stiff- she holds no more flexible grace in her form. Empty branches, wilted blossom will neither see the sun nor match its brightest smile again. Forever winter body, bare bones that reveal the background planks of pine forest; the substance has fled to insubstantial essence- the song of the wind and river rushes. Don't worry, mother, she whispers you her lush-leaved lullaby, a reel of birdsong and bagpipes- the soundtrack to your daylight.
